Beyond the Lab

Writing. I have written about engineering, policy, and ideas for over a decade at Engineer Living — essays and a running notebook on the energy transition, cities, and the systems that shape how people live. Start with the Energy Transition thread.

Fiction. I am writing a science fiction novel, The Friction Deficit — set in a post-scarcity solar civilization, it asks what happens to purpose, love, and meaning when survival costs nothing. The lab’s vision statement ends “a blueprint for utopia here and among the stars”; the novel is about what we do when we get there.

Civic life. Neighborhood association president, youth sports, and the conviction that the institutional layer of infrastructure starts on your own street.

Travel. All habitable continents with only a backpack — the origin story of everything above. The photos live here.
